OIL EXPORT from the port of Sullom Voe could be disrupted later this spring if the crews working on the council run tugs vote for industrial action over the terms of a long service award.
Members of the Unite union based at Sella Ness are being balloted next week.
Unite said its members will lose out on an award paid to council employees after 25 years of service, equivalent to one month salary, and instead be given a flat rate of £250.

Twice as many British aviation jobs lost as in France and Germany

FAR more jobs in aviation and related industries have been lost in Britain during the Covid-19 pandemic than in either France or Germany, according to new figures published today.
In Britain, 61,973 aviation and aerospace jobs have been axed since February 2020, analysis commissioned by the Unite union found.
They include 12,000 jobs at British Airways, 3,150 at Virgin Atlantic, 3,000 at Rolls-Royce and 2,200 at Airbus.
Germany and France have lost 28,964 and 20,409 jobs respectively, according to the report by research firm Acuity Analysis.
The study also found that the French government had provided £22,300 of support for each aviation and aerospace job, with the German state supplying £19,700. ....

Banbury coffee workers vote for strike ballot over 'fire and rehire' plans

JACOBS DOUWE EGBERTS (JDE) workers in Oxfordshire have voted to hold a strike ballot over plans to fire and rehire nearly 300 staff, Unite said today.
The union said its members in Banbury voted by 96 per cent to hold a ballot on full-scale industrial action with the option to strike after the Dutch-owned coffee company issued notice of dismissal and engagement for 291 employees.
It comes despite JDE reporting a record 9.1 per cent growth last year as coffee drinking boomed during lockdown.
Unite general secretary Len McCluskey said the move is an “unethical and immoral” assault on members’ pay and conditions.
“[This] is a despicable attack on our hard-working key workers who have committed themselves so tirelessly throughout the Covid-19 crisis,” he said. ....
