THE UNITE union has expressed its ‘deep concern’ at management proposals to axe more than 200 jobs at the Aston Martin site in the Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales.
‘The scale of the proposed job losses is extremely concerning,’ its statement warned, ‘and raises serious questions regarding Aston Martin’s employment practices and wider commitment to South Wales.’
The threat to workers’ jobs has come both from Aston Martin bosses themselves and from their ‘contingent workforce provider’ Millbank (Priory Design Services Ltd). ....

UNITE Wales has today welcomed the announcement by Airbus that there will be no compulsory redundancies across their UK operations, including at Broughton in North Wales.
The news will come as a relief to the thousands of Unite members at Broughton, who recently overwhelmingly agreed to an innovative shorter working week in order to save jobs.
Peter Hughes, Unite Wales Regional Secretary said: For our members at Airbus Broughton this is great news following a turbulent year that has seen the plant rocked by the effects of COVID-19.
The Welsh aerospace sector has been under immense pressure due to the decline in aircraft orders resulting from the pandemic. ....

THE result of a ballot asking Airbus workers to work a shorter week in a bid to save jobs at the Broughton plant is expect today.
Last month, Unite said about members of the union employed at the Airbus plant in Broughton would be balloted on the plan to move to a shorter working week.
The plan, which has been negotiated between Unite and Airbus, will see a reduction in the working week of between fine and ten per cent for a short period of time.
If agreed by the majority of about 3,500 workers art the plant, the proposal will remove the possibility of compulsory redundancies and provide a roadmap to a resumption of full time working and a way out of this COVID-19 crisis. ....

The plan, which has been negotiated between Unite and Airbus, will see a reduction in the working week of between five and ten per cent for a short period of time to remove the possibility of compulsory redundancies.
