Israel-Gaza conflict spirals as UN envoy warns of 'full-scale war'

Jerusalem, May 11 (EFE).- The exchange of airstrikes and rocket fire between Palestinian militants in Gaza and the Israeli Army intensified Tuesday in the worst escalation in recent years, and as the United Nation’’ Middle East envoy warned of “full-scale war.”
At least 30 Palestinians were killed Tuesday, including minors, and three fatalities were recorded in Israel.
Hamas said it fired 130 rockets towards Tel Aviv, which forced the suspension of flights to and from Ben Gurion International Airport.
The al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamist Hamas movement, had anticipated that they would fire at Tel Aviv if Israel attacked the well-known 14-story Hanadi building in the heart of Gaza City, which houses the offices of spokesmen and members of the Hamas political ranks. That was bombed Tuesday afternoon. ....

Israeli Government 'Provoked' Deadly Violence, Former Palestinian Peace Negotiator Says


The United Nations Middle East envoy warned Wednesday that tensions escalating towards a full-scale war” between Israel and Palestinian militants after Israeli airstrikes and rockets fired from the Gaza strip claimed more lives Wednesday morning.
Dozens have died this week in the violence, most of them Palestinian, as Israeli airstrikes leveled Palestinian apartment towers and Palestinian militant groups fired rockets at Israeli cities. It s the worst violence in years for a conflict that goes back decades.

The UAE condemned the violence in Jerusalem and called on the Israeli authorities to take responsibility for de-escalation and to end all attacks
Experts are pinning hope that the UAE could use its diplomatic might and new-found friendship with Israel to end the spiralling conflict with Palestine that has claimed more than 50 lives and injured hundreds.
Pinning the blame on Israel for its disproportionate retaliation, Dr Abdulkhaleq Abdulla, professor of political science at the UAE University, said the current tension will be a litmus test for the Abraham Accords – the US-negotiated peace deal that normalised ties between the UAE and Israel in September 2020. ....
