A most destructive storm swept over Shelby County yesterday evening, leaving in its wake, waste and ruin to the crops, fences, orchards, and forest trees. The line of the storm was southeast. It struck Sidney about 5:30 p.m. Two inches of rain fell in 20 minutes, with streets and alleys looking like rivers and creeks. The roof was blown from the residence of Jacob Piper and deposited in the middle of Ohio Avenue.

Two young Sidney sports beating their way on the head end from Pemberton to Sidney yesterday were quietly captured by a Big Four detective. They paid their fares and were allowed to go. ....

NASHVILLE – Senator Shane Reeves (R-Murfreesboro) made the following statement in regards to the announcement by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development that a $782,976 grant has been awarded to expand broadband to 371 addresses in unserved communities of Marshall and Bedford Counties through the United Telephone Company. The project amount is $1.56 million with the grantee contract match at 50 percent.
Sen. Reeves said, “This grant is great news as we continue our efforts to get more broadband services into our rural communities. There has never been a more important time to improve connectivity than now. Broadband is not only critical to create high quality jobs for our citizens, it is needed in homes for education, telemedicine, farming and other needs that improve the quality of life for families. R. Douglas 'Doug' Knox

R. Douglas âDougâ Knox, 88, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, at UPMC Pinnacle Carlisle. He was born on Jan. 16, 1932, in Baltimore, Md., and was raised in Gettysburg, the son of the late Francis I. Knox Jr. and Mary (McSherry) Knox.
Doug was married for 54 years to the late Vivian (Colehouse) Knox who passed away on Dec. 23, 2008.
Doug graduated in 1949 from Gettysburg High School where he played varsity football, basketball and baseball. He entered the US Air Force and served from 1949 to 1952 and was honorably discharged as staff sergeant. He enjoyed playing on the sports teams at the bases while serving in the Air Force. ....
