ALBANY – Teenagers from around the Capital Region gathered Saturday for an open forum on gun violence, the impact of the pandemic on their lives, restorative justice, and intertwined issues like poverty, domestic violence and systemic racism.
Eva Bass, CEO of Bridge da Gap and chair of the city’s equity agenda, oversaw the Capital Region Youth Speak-out event. The idea for it grew out of discussions between non-profits in the city and members of the city’s gun violence task force, she said.
Bass said they wanted to create a platform to amplify teenagers’ voices on issues that directly affect them but they are often not heard on, as well as connecting them with resources. ....

Ex-Union Minister Digvijaysinh Zala passes away at 88 after brief illness

Former Union Environment Minister and MLA from Gujarat s Wankaner Digvijaysinh Zala passed away at the age of 88.
The head of the erstwhile princely state of Wankaner in Saurashtra expired following a brief period of illness.
Zala was an MLA from Wankaner for the years 1962-67 as an independent candidate and as a member of the Swatantra Party from 1967-71.
He, then, joined the Congress and became a Member of Parliament from Surendranagar for two terms from 1979 to 1989.
Establishing the Environment ministry under Prime minister Indira Gandhi, he became the first Environment Minister of the country from 1982 to 1984.
He also represented India in the United Nations on more than one occasion, speaking on environmental issues facing the world. ....

Contributed over Rs 34K cr to Indian exchequer in FY20: Vedanta Resources

Diversified natural resources firm Vedanta Resources has said it contributed USD 4.66 billion (Rs 34,018 crore) to the public exchequer in India during the 2019-20 fiscal.
Its overall contributions to public exchequers of various countries stood at USD 4.7 billion (Rs 34,310 crore) during the fiscal year, Vedanta Resources said in its latest report.
Consistent with our commitment to building on transparency, we present our fifth tax transparency report. During FY2019-20, our contribution to exchequer was USD 4.7 billion, which accounts for 40 per cent of our consolidated turnover, Vedanta Resources Chairman Anil Agarwal said.
Most of this amount goes to the Indian exchequer as majority of the groups business operations are located in India. ....
