MEMPHIS The Ubly girls basketball team picked up its fifth straight win on Monday night, overpowering host Memphis, 48-16.
The Bearcats are now 5-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
Ubly head coach Joel Leipprandt attributed his team’s improved play to changes the Bearcats have made since the start of the season.
“The girls are adjusting to their new roles and our overall energy has been improving every game,” Leipprandt said. “Our offensive timing is getting better, as well.”
Leading the way for the Bearcats on Monday night were Dajnae Leipprandt with 17 points, Josie Gusa with 9, Madeline Langenburg with 8, Kylie Maurer and Hally Zeihm with 5 each and Hailey Mausolf with 4. ....

CASS CITY – The Bad Axe girls basketball team traveled to Cass City on Monday night and earned its fourth win of the season, beating the Red Hawks, 49-45, in a seesaw battle that saw several lead changes and clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch.
Monday night’s contest was close from start to finish, with the Hatchets heading into halftime with a slim 24-21 lead. Both teams held leads of two and three points as the game went back and forth with neither team gaining a solid foothold. Olivia Krueger would hit a couple of three-pointers to give the Red Hawks some momentum at the beginning of the third quarter, but the Hatchets would battle back and build a seven-point lead in the fourth and hold on for the victory. ....
