Dive Brief:
The Facebook-backed Diem Association is withdrawing its application for a payments system license from the Swiss Financial Markets Authority (FINMA) and will move its primary operations to the U.S. from Switzerland, it said Wednesday.
The association said its subsidiary, Diem Networks U.S., will instead register as a money services business with the Treasury Department s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and run a blockchain-based payment system that allows the real-time transfer of U.S. dollar-backed stablecoins.
La Jolla, California-based Silvergate Bank will become the exclusive issuer of the stablecoin, Diem USD, and will manage the currency reserve, the association said.  ....

JPMorgan Chase and Citi joined Bank of America on Thursday in rolling out 13-figure environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments.
JPMorgan Chase on Thursday said it aims, by 2030, to finance and facilitate $2.5 trillion to address climate change and advance sustainable development. About $1 trillion of that total will be dedicated toward green initiatives that boost renewable energy and clean technologies, the bank said in a press release.

After 20 years as CEO of Partner Colorado Credit Union, Sundie Seefried will step down in July to lead a new cannabis banking company called Safe Harbor Financial, an entity formed through the combination of the credit union’s cannabis banking arm and its division that licenses those services to other financial institutions.
Partner Colorado will be majority owner of Safe Harbor, and all cannabis-related funds will continue to flow through the Arvada, Colorado-based credit union.
Partner Colorado chose to separate the entity from the credit union to devote more resources to the growing market and ensure the credit union’s consumer division is not neglected, said Seefried, who has spearheaded the institution’s cannabis banking efforts since 2014, the same year state-licensed retail sales of cannabis began in Colorado. ....
