After purchase, what's in store for Sarasota's Crossings at Siesta Key?

When it took over the former Southgate mall at U.S. 41 and Siesta Drive earlier this year, O Connor Capital Partners was pretty vague about what, exactly, it planned for the property.
The investment company, which owned just 49% of Westfield Siesta Key mall uuntil it took over the remaining shares late last year, didn t provide many details about what it wanted to do with the highly visible retail center.
All O Connor said at the time was that it would rebrand the mall - which it did almost immediately, changing the name to the Crossings at Siesta Key - and add a mix of new merchants and restaurants to serve the needs and requests of the community. ....

Retail surges as customers return to shopping in Palm Beach

An influx of visitors and new residents seeking a less locked-down and more outdoor-friendly environment helped Palm Beach merchants experience a decent season despite the pandemic.
Longtime residents too, were eager to dine out and shop, refreshing their wardrobes. The summer outlook is positive as the trend continues.
“It has been amazing. This was our best March in the last 20 years. There is a lot of pent-up demand,” said Michael Maus, owner of Maus & Hoffman, a family-owned menswear store on Worth Avenue for more than 60 years.
“The season was definitely better than expected. From our perspective we planned for some very dire things. We are happy where we are as a business. I think a lot of businesses would say the same thing. We are lucky to be here in South Florida and not in another market that is more locked down,” said Maus, who also is a board member of the Worth Avenue Association. ....

Sarasota Aldi store is now open

The rest of the mall is owned by O’Connor Capital Partners, a real estate development, investment and management firm with offices in New York, Palm Beach and Mexico City.
Aldi has been on a rapid expansion path over the past few years. The grocer plans to be the third-largest U.S. grocery retailer by the end of 2022. That will involve opening one more Sarasota County store that we know of in the near future – in Venice’s Jacaranda Plaza, which is also owned by Benderson.
“We are proud of our continued expansion,” Matt Thon, Haines City division vice president at Aldi, said in a statement. “Opening new stores allows us to provide even more shoppers convenient access to fresh, high-quality groceries at unbeatable prices.
