Stanley woman gets probation for embezzling from former employer

Jun. 10—EAU CLAIRE — A Stanley woman will spend five years on probation for embezzling more than $35,000 over a three-year period from an Eau Claire promotional products company. Karen A. Phillips. 47, was sentenced Thursday in Eau Claire County Court on two felony counts of theft in a business setting. Judge Sarah Harless ordered Phillips to pay $40,074 in restitution to her former employer. . ....

EAU CLAIRE COUNTY (WQOW) – Homicide charges were filed on Tuesday against two area men in connection with the drug overdose of another man.
Noah Beckstead, 19, from Ettrick, and Trenton Wik, 33, from Eau Claire are both charged with reckless homicide. Wik is also charged with numerous counts of selling fentanyl.
According to the criminal complained filed in Eau Claire County Court:
A man’s body was found in a car parked on Eau Claire’s Cochrane Street last December.
The investigation led to Beckstead who said that night he and the victim had consumed alcohol, smoked pot and meth and did a hit of acid and then injected what he thought was heroin. It turned out to actually be fentanyl which he had allegedly purchased from Wik. ....

Teen gets jail for taking $12K worth of hemp during burglary


EAU CLAIRE — One of two teens accused of taking $12,000 worth of hemp during a burglary at an Eau Claire business will spend one year in jail.
An accomplice told police the teens planned to sell the hemp to “stupid people” who would not know the difference between hemp and marijuana.
Damon W. Triebold, 19, of Amery, was sentenced recently in Eau Claire County Court to a felony count of burglary and an unrelated felony count of taking or driving a vehicle without consent.
Felony counts of theft and bail jumping were dismissed but considered by Judge Emily Long at sentencing.
Long placed Triebold on five years of probation and fined him $1,631. He must also pay $12,592 in restitution. As conditions of probation, Triebold cannot have contact with his co-defendant or Evolutions Hemp. ....

Police: Man didn't inform authorities of drug overdose victim's death


The incident occurred two years ago, police said.
Roger A. Minck, 55, 2604 Seymour Road, was charged Wednesday in Eau Claire County Court with felony counts of hiding a corpse, narcotics delivery, burglary and maintaining a drug trafficking place.
A warrant was issued for Minck’s arrest.
According to the criminal complaint:
On Nov. 6, 2018, the Buffalo County Sheriff’s office received a report of a missing person in the town of Gilmanton.
The 53-year-old man had not shown up to work and his location was unknown.
The man had been missing for a day. Several attempts to locate him by family members and the Sheriff’s Office were unsuccessful. ....

Neillsville man, accused of child sexual assault, dies in prison


Robert E. Schuster, 55, was slated to enter a plea earlier this month in Clark County Court.
However, Clark County District Attorney Melissa Inlow filed a motion last week to dismiss the case. Inlow said Wednesday that Schuster has died, ending the matter. Court records show Inlow was incarcerated in Dodge Correctional Institution.
In the Clark County case, he was charged in March 2019, after being accused of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl during a camping trip. 
In May, Schuster was sentenced in Eau Claire County Court to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a boy when he was four years old, at a town of Wilson residence. Schuster, who lived in Stanley at the time of the incident, pleaded no contest in October 2019 to first-degree sexual assault of a child. ....
