School delays and closures after power outage in Colorado Springs

A power failure forced a Monday morning delays and closures for classes at several school campuses after the incident cut off electricity to 3,000 Colorado Springs Utilities customers.
Pikes Peak Community College s Centennial Campus, located near South Academy Boulevard, planned to open at noon while Stratmoor Hills Elementary School and Oak Creek Elementary School canceled classes.
Most customers regained electricity within the first hour of the outage, which started around 6 a.m. But nearly 200 people remained without power as of 7:30 a.m., said Katlin Nolt, a spokeswoman for Colorado Springs Utilities.
Nolt said buildings without power were expected to regain electricity between 8 and 9 a.m. ....

Large development eyes New Braunfels area

An almost 1,900-acre project proposed along I-35 just outside of the New Braunfels city limits could bring up to 6,000 new residential units to the area, commercial and light industrial development as well as parks and spaces for additional schools.
The tentatively named Mayfair development is drawing comparisons to Veramendi, a similar 2,400-acre project that had its official opening in 2019 and continues to build.
Like Veramendi, the Mayfair development requires an approved development agreement before establishing a water improvement district, according to David Ferguson, the cityâs media and communications coordinator.Â
âThe proposed WID is intended to have a mixture of residential, commercial and public uses,â Ferguson said. âThe property is located outside the city limits, but the legislation authorizing the WID provides the city with the ability to enter the agreement in order to outline the cityâs requirements for permitting and plan ....

SAN ANTONIO – Two San Antonio elementary school students learned a lot more than they anticipated after they took part in a Comal Independent School District conversation contest back in January.
According to the district, Ethan Jaramillo, a third-grade student from Indian Springs Elementary School, became visibly upset when he learned that he did not win this year’s Comal Shake, a district-wide competition that is designed to develop interpersonal and conversational skills. In the moment, he tried his best to fight back tears. ....

Several schools with Olentangy close due to substitute shortage of staff getting COVID-19 vaccine

COLUMBUS, Ohio Nine schools in the Olentangy Local School District are closed Monday due to a shortage of available substitutes.
The district said it hosted a clinic with the Delaware Public Health District on Saturday for educators to receive a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The district said it scheduled the clinic for Saturday instead of Sunday to allow staff more time to recover and requested additional substitutes for Monday.
However, there was still a substitute shortage Monday due to the number of staff absences.
