Ogdensburg students discuss difficulties of senior year due to COVID-19 mandates, guidelines

The 2020-21 school year was not a typical experience for high school students on the verge of graduating after a dozen years in elementary, middle and high school. School districts had to make tough decisions on how to offer their lessons to students while trying to make it safe for both students and staff as well as their families, during an unprecedented pandemic caused by COVID-19.
In the Ogdensburg City School District before they re-opened fully on May 3, students could choose between fully remote or a hybrid model, where they went to school two to three days a week and the other days they were remote, receiving their lessons through a computer. The district had split the students into âcohortsâ to limit the number of students attending class at a certain time. ....

To the Editor:
Thank you to all within the Ogdensburg City School District who came out to support our Ogdensburg Public Library! This overwhelming PRO VOTE for our library is due to the Amazing Referendum Team which the board of trustees set in motion. Two of the trustees took up the helm. This team consisted of two main committees, PR & Marketing, and Phone Bank.
The PR & Marketing committee was led by Lin Griffin along with Laura Pearson and Karen Wright. The Phone Bank was led by Tom Lawrence along with Jana Norris, Christine Becker and Paula Jacques. Tom organized a 20-member phone bank with script and a weekend timeline in which to complete the calls. ....

Ogdensburg City School District names valedictorian, salutatorian for 2021

OGDENSBURG The valedictorian and salutatorian for the class of 2021 at Ogdensburg City School District have been named. The district is proud announced their valedictorian as Sloane Ryan and their salutatorian as DeAnna Fennessy.
Sloane Ryan, valedictorian, is the daughter of Garth and Molly Ryan of Ogdensburg. With a grade point average of 99.28, she ranks number one in her class of 106 seniors. Sloane will graduate in June 2021 with a Regents diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors and an annotation that denotes Mastery in Mathematics and Science.
Outside of academics, Ryan is well-known in the district and community as an outstanding vocalist and actress, having starred in community productions and school productions. Sloane has performed vocal and instrumental solos for NYSSMA for years, and she has participated in very competitive All-County, Area All-State, All-State, and All-Eastern ....
