To Whom It May Concern:
As a Town of Oswegatchie taxpayer, I have been reading and listening to the information presented by the Ogdensburg Public Library and the Friends of the Library. I believe that all taxpayers, city and surrounding townships should do their homework before voting on this referendum on May 18.
1. The Ogdensburg Public Library is a Municipal Library, governed by a Board of Trustees. As a Municipal Library, the board can only consist of residents of the City of Ogdensburg. A few years ago, the voters passed resolutions that raised $125,000 from all Ogdensburg School District households which includes Ogdensburg residents and those in parts of the Town of Lisbon and Oswegatchie. This money is a permanent tax which is listed on your annual school tax bill. Currently, you are paying currently .319 per thousand. So, if your home is assessed at $100,000, your current yearly library tax is $31.80 ....

Tuesday school budget proposition decides if Ogdensburg library gets additional $225,000 in funding

OGDENSBURG – It’s a big deal.
A proposition attached to the school budget vote set for May 18 will determine whether or not the Ogdensburg Public Library receives $225,000 in additional funding.
The decision falls squarely on voters within the Ogdensburg School District and their decision will shape the future of the city library.
The funding is intended to replace money that once came from the city budget, but will end completely in 2022.
Ogdensburg Mayor Jeffrey M. Skelly has devoted his first term in office to reducing costs at the city and has been laser focused on finances and clearing a path to development of the city’s waterfront and businesses. While he says the library is important, he does not approve of how it’s been run and wants to see new leadership. He sees the May 18 vote as a referendum on the library’s leadership and path for the future. ....

To the editor:
This coming Tuesday, May 18, the voters in the Ogdensburg School District will have the chance to vote their support to help fund the Ogdensburg Public Library through a small tax hike. I believe that the OPL is still a valuable asset to the community and deserves a Yes vote.
Even in this internet age a healthy library makes for a healthy populace. The Ogdensburg Public Library is still a gathering place, although the COVID threat has resulted in further reduction of library hours. From the computers and printers that are available, to the many wonderful periodicals, books, audio books, and movies on DVD, there s s lot that the OPL provides. The staff can also provide help with research in many areas including local genealogy, and programs for different age groups including the all-important children s story time . ....

Ogdensburg School district propositions include purchase of 12 new school buses

OGDENSBURG â Ogdensburg City School District is hoping for 12 new school buses following its budget vote in May.
On May 18, residents will vote on four propositions; the school budget that has no tax rate increase, 12 new school buses, establishing a capital reserve fund and a library referendum.
The second proposition includes the purchasing and financing of 12 school buses with an estimated cost that is not to exceed $1.3 million.
âBy going with our own transportation program, we are able to purchase the 12 new buses that take into consideration our studentsâ safety,â said Ogdensburg City School District Superintendent Kevin Kendall. âItâll be brand new state-of-the-art buses with student safety at the forefront.â ....
