An Oakland Chinatown store owner accused of firing multiple rounds at someone who allegedly tried to steal a camera from a woman outside his storefront was released on $60,000 bail Tuesday, authorities said.
The 36-year-old store owner, who officials did not identify, was arrested Monday evening and faces one count of felony assault with a firearm, Alameda County sheriff’s Sgt. Ray Kelly said. Officials did not provide information or a description of the robbery suspect. ....

As Oakland Chinatown reels from a recent string of assaults and robberies some of them captured in stark, instantly viral video footage merchants are testing a controversial solution: armed security guards.
