ALL of Chard’s new relief road will be delivered – but not necessarily in the right order.
It may sound like a line from a Morecambe and Wise sketch, but the decision could have serious implications for the town in the years ahead.
South Somerset District Council identified the need for an eastern relief road (ERR) in Chard in its Local Plan, in order to take pressure off the town centre.
Six years after the plan was formally adopted in March 2015, not a single metre of the new road has been delivered – and the first possible section that could be built may end up being the section that was intended to be built last. ....

Mercedes stolen from driveway in Oxhey Hall

An operations manager has said he and his family were left “gutted” after his car was stolen from their driveway.
Benjamin, who did not want to reveal his surname, said his 2015 Mercedes AMG C220 was stolen after returning to his home in Oaklands Avenue, Oxhey Hall, from a family day out on Friday evening (April 2).
The family had gone to see relatives who they had not seen for 10 months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Benjamin said he realised the car had been stolen on Saturday morning, after noticing that his car was not on the drive anymore.
“I was gutted and we were all upset,” the 41-year-old said. ....
