Who doesn’t love puns?
With his new show “Pundred,” the first solo exhibition at the new Location Gallery space at 251 Bull Street, Peter Roberts is taking tongue in cheek to eleven.
“My grandfather instilled a love of puns and wordplay in our family,” Roberts recalled.
The current presentation features the final twenty-five paper cut images in the hundred piece series, which the artist began back in 2017 with five compositions for the Savannah Mosaic show. He ultimately decided to shoot for the century mark because he “couldn’t resist swapping the H for P and hence, Pundred.”
“The challenge was concocting the puns,” explained Roberts, “so I listed out almost 400 puns in about a week. I then waited for about a month, came back and edited for visual tension and narrative and frankly, to see which ones I still laughed at and which ones I could land the joke visually.”
