NEW YORK, NY
.-Alexander Berggruen is presenting Angie Jennings: Guides from the night fields. This exhibition is on view at the gallery: 1018 Madison Ave., Fl. 3, New York, NY, 10075.
Guides from the night fields presents visionary plains existing just beyond sight. Here, the word guide is akin to spirit, and we see the artist’s continued developments speaking towards issues of visibility and the formation of speculative thought. Jennings explores the limits and structures of our visible spectrums in relation to identity and the unknown through her emanant drawings on black paper. In speaking about the drawings in the show, Jennings stated: ....

A few years ago, Michael Henry Hayden and his partner Anthony led me and a small group of friends on a magical night hike in Angeles National Forest the two frequent trails in the area. The works in his new show “Waiting for the Canyon’s Echo” are made from silicone casts of natural materials rocks, plants, trees both domestic and wild. For “Plein Air” a flawless painting fading from creamy orange to white that is encased by two large rock faces Hayden went into Angeles Forest and made a cast of a granite cliff face ....

Colorful floral paintings have a darker undertone that subtly alludes to America's opioid epidemic

Dec. 15, 2020
This week’s picks include an artist who creates playful and graphic airbrushed paintings with darker undertones; women who are depicted pumping breast milk while listing their fears; and an artist whose manipulated clay forms match her own body weight.

At Ochi Projects in Mid-City, Ben Sanders’ colorful paintings make a vibrant statement. Flowers splash across the graphic and airbrushed works, petals and stems coiling into complex configurations. Sanders’ graphic style recalls Memphis design (think Peter Shire) or perhaps a beachy tropical shirt from the 1980s he’s not afraid to playfully arrange colors and patterns to create ecstatic compositions, all while maintaining razor-sharp edges and seamless gradients.
