Night hours for CV vaccination clinic
The county-run COVID-19 vaccination site at the South Region Live Well Center, 690 Oxford St., Chula Vista, is now offering evening hours from 1-8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. The clinic will be administering Pfizer and Moderna vaccines to people with and without appointments. People are welcome to drop in, whether for a first dose, or for a second dose that is a follow-up to a dose received elsewhere. The Greg Cox Bike Park opens in Otay Valley Regional Park for riders of all ages -


CHULA VISTA (KUSI)- The County officially opened the Greg Cox Bike Park in Otay Valley Regional Park on April 28, 2021.
County Supervisor Nora Vargas, Chula Vista Mayor Mary Casillas, and former County Supervisor Greg Cox created the $1.05 million, 3.2-acre bike park. It becomes the county’s second bike skills park with trails, jump lines, and pump tracks. The Greg Cox Bike Park will epitomize the County’s ‘Live Well San Diego’ vision by giving people a new way to exercise, have fun and support a healthy and safe thriving community.

Woman pleads not guilty to murder in shooting death of woman in Chula Vista field


CHULA VISTA   
A woman accused in the shooting death of another woman whose body was discovered last summer in a Chula Vista field pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a murder charge and was ordered held on $3 million bail.
Vanesa Berenice Gastellu, 29, is accused of killing 23-year-old Christina Garcia.
A person walking on a trail around 6:30 a.m. Aug. 5 found the victim’s body in a field south of Fourth Avenue and Main Street, in the area of the Otay Valley Regional Park, according to Chula Vista police.
The criminal complaint charging Garcia with murder and several firearm-use allegations alleges the killing occurred on or about the date Garcia’s body was found. ....

Tension among members of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors sometimes reached a fever pitch in 2020.
Faced with a global pandemic and a divisive election year that would determine the political balance of the board, disagreements among the county’s five supervisors often played out in public.
Despite those conflicts, the board was able to navigate some of its biggest challenges in 2020, including becoming one of the first counties in the country to declare a local emergency in response to COVID-19 in February and later passing a $6.5 billion annual budget the largest in county history.
While every board member deserves some credit for that, one board member most often functioned as the board’s peacemaker: Supervisor Greg Cox. Cox chaired the board during a year unlike any other in his 26-year tenure on the board. ....
