Alamogordo, NM - On February 13, 2021 at approximately 11:48 a.m., the Alamogordo Police Department responded to a residence on Stanford Avenue in Alamogordo, NM in reference to a neighbor dispute. Here is a statement from the New Mexico State Police:
When the sergeant arrived at the residence, he met with the reporting party. As the sergeant conducted an interview with the reporting party, he heard approximately four gunshots fired towards his direction from 2410 Stanford Avenue. The sergeant had the reporting party seek cover in their residence as he moved towards the residence where the shots were fired. The sergeant observed a male subject who was identified as Nathan Contreras (41) of Alamogordo, NM, standing outside of 2410 Stanford Avenue armed with a handgun. The sergeant identified himself as a police officer and gave verbal commands to Contreras to drop the gun. Contreras ignored ....

New Mexico State Police Unit Arrests Missouri Fugitives

Carrizozo, NM - On Wednesday, January 20, 2021, agents with the New Mexico State Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit received information from the United States Marshals Service that two wanted violent fugitives were driving through New Mexico. The fugitives were identified as Tracy Brown, 57, and Diana Thomas, 47, both of Bismarck, Missouri. Brown was wanted for escape from the Iron County Jail in Ironton, Missouri and Thomas was wanted for weapons charges out of Missouri. The two were driving together in a black 2011 Chevrolet Malibu.
After receiving this information, the New Mexico State Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit, which was created by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham in October of 2019 to arrest wanted fugitives across the state, began an investigation to locate these fugitives, and coordinate a plan to safely take them off the streets and into custody. Otero County jail detainees claim poor COVID mitigation practices

ALAMOGORDO Attorneys for detainees at the Otero County Detention Center say they are finding it increasingly difficult to get information about the health of their clients amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since early December, attorneys with the Law Office of the Public Defender in the 12th Judicial District say they ve attempted multiple times to get copies of these health records via inspection of public records requests to the county. But because of the pandemic, county officials said the request for the physical copies of the records are too burdensome.
Instead, county officials told LOPD its officials could visit the facility and make copies. Because of the pandemic, LOPD Attorney Dayna Jones said sending attorneys to a location that may be experiencing a high number of COVID-19 cases was out of the question. ....
