PENOP partners with AVCA on development of private equity in Nigeria

The Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp) has partnered with the African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCA) to empower local investors and develop private equity (PE) as an asset class in Nigeria.
Domestic capital plays a vital role in accelerating economic growth in Nigeria and across the continent in general. Over the past 5-10 years, the value of Nigerian pension funds has grown markedly to peak at over $25 billion in December 2020, of which 0.03% has been allocated to private equity.
The partnership between PenOp and AVCA will focus on training and networking, including an introduction to Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), fund managers and other stakeholders within the global private equity ecosystem, to ensure the growth of private equity in Nigeria, especially for pension operators. Nigeria Considers Reduction of Costs, Merge MDAs amid Shortfall in Revenue.
In the just concluded week, the Federal
Government as part of measures to reduce cost of governance amid its dwindling revenue, announced plans to reduce payrolls, cut down recurring project costs and merge some of its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
According to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, the President stated that the Salaries Committee should work together with the Head of Service to review salaries and pay roll of federal institutions in order to step down on cost.

Nigeria pension fund operators seek alternative investments amid yield decline
Pension assets fell by N51 billion in February.
The
Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp) on Tuesday said it was seeking investment alternatives besides government bonds and treasury bills to increase returns on investment on pension assets.
Oguche Agudah, Chief Executive Officer of PenOp, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of a virtual training for members of the National Association of Insurance and Pension Correspondents in Lagos.
Mr Agudah spoke in reaction to a decline of pension assets by N51.30 billion in February. ....

Stakeholders task employers on contributory pension scheme

Experts have urged employers in both private and public sectors to join the contributory pension scheme to secure the future of their workers.
The experts, who spoke at a virtual training organised by the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp) for journalists, urged employers to join the contributory pension scheme (CPS).
They called on employers to remit their workers’ monthly contributions promptly, adding that such will ensure employees have a secured life after retirement.
