McMinnville man gets 12.5 years for sexually abusing 10-year-old girl


A McMinnville man was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison for sexually abusing a girl.
Erick Munoz Diaz, 35, was sentenced by Yamhill County Circuit Court Judge Ladd Wiles after pleading no contest to three counts of first-degree sexual abuse last week. Two counts of first-degree sodomy and first-degree unlawful penetration charges were dropped as part of the agreement, court records show.
Munoz Diaz was also ordered to register as a sex offender.
In January 2020, McMinnville police officers responded to a report of Munoz Diaz inappropriately touching an 8-year-old girl who was known to him.
The caller told police they received a call from the child s mother asking for suggestions on what to do after the child told her about the abuse, according to police department officials.  ....

Efforts to follow National Human Trafficking Awareness Month
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) For the 12th time, Bend nonprofit In Our Backyard will be overseeing anti-human trafficking efforts at the Super Bowl. this year in Tampa, Florida.
We are out there, identifying minors and missing children who could be human trafficked in the area,” said Cheryl Csiky, executive director of In Our Backyard, said Thursday
Csiky knows first-hand how important these efforts are.
My story began very young, around 9 years old fourth grade,” she told NewsChannel 21. “For me, as a survivor, I don t want anyone to experience what I went through, and the healing process I have endured.” ....

Oregon DHS reports lowest number of children in foster care in 15 years

SALEM, Ore. (KTVZ) Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and historic wildfires, the Oregon Department of Human Services Child Welfare Division said Wednesday it was able to reduce the use of foster care to a historic low, return all children placed at out-of-state residential treatment facilities to Oregon and reduce the use of temporary lodging.
On Jan. 1, there were 6,118 children in foster care, the lowest number of children in care in 15 years.
“We all know that infants, children, adolescents and young adults do best growing up in a family that can provide love, support, lifelong learning, shared values and important memories,” said Child Welfare Director Rebecca Jones Gaston. “That is why we are committed to doing everything we can to provide the necessary supports to help families safely stay together ....
