Funding available for local organizations taking action against opioid crisis

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C – Applications are open for the Fort St. John Community Grant to support local organizations addressing the opioid crisis.
The FSJ Community Action Team has made $5000 available to support projects or initiatives working to reduce opioid overdoses in the community.
The application period will close on May 31st, with the grant being awarded in June.

Initiatives must address one of the Overdose Emergency Response Centre’s 8 core interventions, including naloxone, Overdose Prevention Services (OPS), social stabilization, peer Empowerment and employment, acute overdose risk management, cultural safety and humility treatment and recovery, and addressing stigma, discrimination, and human rights. ....

OTTAWA - An NDP lawmaker is tabling legislation to decriminalize drug use in Canada, seeking to treat it as a health issue amid a lethal opioid crisis.
New Democrat health critic Don Daviesintroduced a private member s bill Thursday that would scrap Criminal Code provisions on drug possession, expunge criminal records for the same offence and mandate low-barrier access to a safe supply of medically regulated substances.
The legislation is unlikely to reach the debate stage, but Davies says current federal policy is causing unneeded deaths, despite moving in the right direction recently. ....
