Duane Stateler has made many contributions to the pork industry both at the state and national level. 
Stateler Family Farms spans six generations and agriculture has always been an integral part of Duane’s life as a fourth-generation pig farmer. Growing up on the family farm, Duane worked alongside his father to raise pigs farrow-to-finish and grow crops. However, in 1984, Duane and his wife, Margie, made the difficult decision to phase out of pork production in order to prioritize Duane’s health. ....

The world is still in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, but local researchers are working to stop the next outbreak right at the source.
COVID-19 is widely thought to have started in bats before jumping to another animal and then transmitting to humans in Wuhan, China, the original epicenter of the virus. That s why doctors at Ohio State University s College of Veterinary Medicine are keeping a close eye on animals right now.
Their goal, is to make sure COVID-19 doesn t infect an animal, mutate, and then jump back into the human population. They ve also got their eyes on a number of other emerging infectious diseases to try to prevent them from jumpstarting the next pandemic. ....

Scientists are still piecing together how the coronavirus spread from animals to humans.
So far, we know the virus likely originated from a bat. Now, researchers at Ohio State University are taking a closer look at coronavirus transmission, and how it s possible for the virus to jump from humans back to animals.
“So, we re looking in environments like wastewater and storm water. We re also looking at animals around Ohio, from domestic animals to wildlife,” said Dr. Vanessa Hale at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. ....
