In its report “Best and Worst Taxpayer Return on Investment in 2021,” WalletHub placed the Buckeye State sixth in the nation in terms of overall return on investment, which is admirable. Most of the more specific marks for state government services ranged from mediocre to encouraging: total taxes per capita put Ohio 12th in the nation, health was 25th, safety was 17th, economy was 25th, infrastructure and pollution was 22nd. ....

I have traveled all over the country as a professional soccer player, but my hometown of Toledo holds a special place in my heart.
Also close to my heart is the importance of equity and fairness in our educational system. That is why I’m lending my voice to highlight the fact that the Buckeye State is badly in need of equity and fairness in education, and there’s some key legislation now under consideration in the state Capitol that could fix that.
The plan would, for the first time, base education funding on the actual costs of quality education and identifiable student needs, and then allocate those costs fairly across state and local taxpayers. ....
