New City Council members sworn in, Richard Garrett selected as mayor pro tem


CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Seven new City Council members were sworn in Tuesday afternoon during the first session of 2021.
The new council also selected a new mayor pro tem in Ward 1 Councilman Richard Garrett, despite Mayor Joe Pitt’s initial nomination of Ward 4 Councilman Wallace Redd.

Area leaders share wishes for New Year


As Nash County Manager Zee Lamb quipped during a meeting Tuesday, “2020 has been one heck of a year, but 2021 is right around the corner.”
With this common feeling about the past year in mind, the Telegram reached out to several local leaders to find out what they are wishing for in the New Year.
While the chairman of the Edgecombe County Board of Commissioners did not respond to the question, Robbie Davis, chairman of the Nash County Board of Commissioners, said he wishes for local residents to take to heart the lessons learned this past year.
“My hope for the New Year is to take all the things we have learned from the pandemic and use it moving forward. COVID has been a very bad time but look what we have learned: To be patient; to care about your fellow man more; to be innovative on how to accomplish a task; to have more family time; to return to the old way of raising kids; to put your health closer to the top of your agenda, to improve your computer ....
