Health Officials Encourage Youth To Get Vaccinated

As authorization for children over 12 to get vaccinated against the coronavirus nears, health officials urge families to consider getting the vaccine, and for currently eligible 16 and 17-year-olds who are eligible to get vaccinated now.

Dr. Gretchen LaSalle, a family physician with Multi-Care said during a Health District briefing Wednesday, that children usually have milder cases of COVID, but that can still lead to long-term impacts.

“Even though they tend to suffer less severe consequences than adults do when they have COVID infection, they still can suffer very severe consequences, not only health wise, it takes them out of school, it sets them back educationally potentially. There’s both that sort of health, and social, emotional academic piece.” ....

Spokane Regional Health Officer Removed Illegally, Investigators Find

A preliminary Washington Board of Health investigation released Tuesday found that Spokane Regional Health District Administrator Amelia Clark likely violated state law when she removed Dr. Bob Lutz from his role as health officer.
Lutz was Spokane County’s health officer until October 29 of last year. He was removed from his post because of ongoing clashes with the administrator, Clark, and differences of opinion with some health board members.
The investigation was started after a complaint over Lutz’s firing was filed with the state board of health. The investigators reviewed emails, footage from a virtual press conference, press releases and interviewed most of the people involved. ....

Dr. Bob Lutz will soon begin a new public health role. The former Spokane County Health Officer will assume a Covid-related job with the Washington Department of Health.

Bob Lutz is going to the Washington state Health Department at an interesting time. The week of Christmas, state Health Officer Kathy Lofy is leaving her position. Then, on January 10, Health Secretary John Wiesman will move on, to be replaced by Umair Shah, the top public health official in Houston.
A few weeks ago, after he was fired by the Spokane County health board, Lutz says one of the department’s deputy secretaries reached out to him. ....
