MCRD San Diego When Marine leaders defend the Corps historic resistance to further gender integration of recruit training, they often bring up infrastructure as a major challenge. The two Marine Corps boot camps, built in the 1910s, are simply not built to accommodate companies integrated by gender.
Gen. David Berger, commandant of the Marine Corps, even suggested last year that the service would have to close down its existing training bases and build new ones to carry out a congressional integration mandate. ....

First co-ed class graduates from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego -


This was the first opportunity for men and women to train together at MCRD San Diego.
Together, five platoons of male recruits and one platoon of female recruits, totaling 53 women and 344 men, completed the same grueling 13-week course and met the high standards of one of the most difficult entry-level training courses in the U.S. military.

Nathan Paul Shull was born on July 11,1977 in Tucson, Arizona and departed this earthly life on April 29, 2021 in Minden, Louisiana.
Nathan was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Shull. He is survived by his mother Rachel Shull of Minden; sons Reid Hadley of Houston, Delaware, Brody Luke Shull and Silas Paul Shull of Minden; two sisters, Anna Booher and husband Craig of Middletown, Connecticut and Jessica Adams and husband Joe of Minden, Louisiana ; grandmother Helen Williams, of Tucson, Arizona; nieces and nephews Lauren, Joseph, Josiah, Rebekah, Samuel, Caroline and Aliyah. 
Nathan and his father, mother and two sisters moved to Louisiana when he was 5 years and he grew up in Minden, while attending church at Evening Light Tabernacle.  He attended Mount Olive Christian School and was a graduate of Sibley High School Class of 1995. He then graduated from the United States Naval Academy as a member of the Class of 1999, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant i ....

Dozens of new female Marines completed the grueling final exercise required of recruits in boot camp this week, setting them up to become the first women in the service’s history to graduate from the historically all-male Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.
Fifty-three women in the first-ever coed company to train at the Marine Corps’ West Coast training base completed the Crucible Thursday morning. The demanding three-day event is the culminating exercise at boot camp, and the recruits were presented with the coveted eagle, globe and anchor pins afterward and called Marines for the first time. ....
