Maritime NZ has accepted an Enforceable Undertaking (EU) from KiwiRail which will spend $335,746, plus financial amends and costs of support to the victim, as the result of an incident on the Kaiarahi Interislander ferry in April 2019.
Maritime NZ’s Central Region Compliance Manager, Michael-Paul Abbott, said a crew member slipped in the hydraulics room, breaking the main bone in one of his legs, the femur, in two places. The injury required surgery and the insertion of rods and screws to align the bone. The crew member was off work for 15 weeks and three days before returning to duties. ....

The floor in the hydraulics rooms on the Kaiarahi Interislander Ferry was found to have insufficient no-skid surfacing and no anti-slip grating in place.
Maritime NZ has accepted an enforceable undertaking from KiwiRail after an incident on the Kaiarahi Interislander ferry in April 2019.
KiwiRail will spend $335,746 plus financial amends and costs to support the victim, a crew member who slipped in the hydraulics rooms, breaking his femur in two places.
The injury required surgery, in which rods and screws were inserted to align the bone. The crew member was off work for 15 weeks and three days, said Maritime NZ central regional compliance manager Michael-Paul Abbott. ....
