Scott Fischer has spent nearly 40 years of his 45-year career working at Coeur d’Alene-based Architects West Inc. In that time, he’s been involved with dozens of projects in North Idaho and Eastern Washington and rose to become president of the company’s board of directors.
Now, Fischer is downsizing his responsibilities as he moves toward retirement within the next couple of years. As of May 2, Fischer, age 66, is working at Architects West part time.
Fischer, the child of an Air Force sergeant, was born in Alaska before moving around the country as his father’s career dictated. In 1967, Fischer’s family moved to Coeur d’Alene. Except for the years he spent earning his architecture degree at the University of Idaho, he’s never left. ....

City staff prepare to move into remodeled library

Knerr Construction is putting the final touches on a remodel of the Hermiston Public Library before city staff move into the libraryâs basement.
The city council and department heads toured the newly remodeled basement before the Monday, Feb. 22, city council meeting. The plan is for the space to be move-in ready in the next few days and for it to open as an interim city hall on Monday, Feb. 28.
City Councilor Roy Barron remarked that the old basement was a âlabyrinthâ of hallways, and he was pleased to see a much more usable space.
âThe architects were surprised there was so much circulation space down here,â City Manager Byron Smith told the group, referring to the hallways that were taken out to create more open spaces. âTheyâve made it much more efficient.â ....

Echo School recognized for design

Echo Schoolâs latest addition has been recognized by the American Institute of Architects.
According to a news release from Architects West, which designed the the schoolâs wing built in 2018, the project was selected by the instituteâs Committee on Architecture for Education as an example of âa project that exhibited clarity of concept, innovation, and creativity, in response to the specifics of program, users, community and site.â
It was featured along with other award winners in the November/December 2020 edition of the American School & University’s 2020 Architectural Portfolio and online at www.SchoolDesigns.com.
The 2018 expansion included more than 9,300 square feet of space, providing a gym and new classroom space, a new secure entrance to the school and features, such as a fitness room and serving kitchen, that were then made available for the publicâs use. ....
