Study: Politics placed Texas construction workers at risk at COVID-19's outset


A recent University of Texas study found that political decisions, including Gov. Greg Abbott s mandate to allow construction work to continue during the coronavirus pandemic s outset, placed employees in that sector at risk.
The report, titled “COVID-19, Structural Inequality, and the Past and Future of Low-Income Latinx Construction Workers in Austin, Texas,” was released by UT s Bernard and Audre Rapoport Center for Human Rights and Justice. Its findings suggest that the political climate of Austin and Texas in general – coupled with the prevalence of undocumented immigrants in the construction industry – contributed to that sector becoming an early hotspot for virus transmission. ....
