Jalgaon hostel 'naked dance' issue false, says Govt. panel


Home Minister Anil Deshmukh says the mental condition of the complainant woman is unstable.
A day after Opposition BJP alleged that women in a government hostel in Jalgaon district were forcibly asked to dance naked by the administration and demanded immediate action from the government, an inquiry conducted by six senior women officers has said that no such incident ever took place inside the hostel.
Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Thursday informed the Assembly that a committee of six senior women officers was immediately formed to probe the allegations. “The officers held discussions with the residents of the hostel. Around 41 witnesses were recorded. It has been found that the mental condition of the complainant lady is unstable,” he said. ....

A man who drunkenly forced himself on his elderly neighbour before assaulting police has been sent to prison.
Raukawa Knight, 42, was heavily intoxicated at the Brockville home he shared with his mother on January 13, the Dunedin District Court heard yesterday.
After becoming angry over the deteriorating state of his relationship, he started to destroy items including a TV and PlayStation. ....

BERLIN (Reuters) - Airbus will make no forced redundancies in France, Germany and Britain, the European planemaker said on Thursday, as it reached an agreement with a German trade union to protect jobs until the end of 2023.
A spokesman for Airbus, which has been hit hard by slumping demand for aircraft in the coronavirus crisis, said other measures - such as voluntary redundancy programmes, early retirement or internal transfers - had been agreed instead.
Negotiations started later in Spain, the spokesman said.
Airbus has been struggling to reach targets to cut staff as part of a restructuring plan affecting up to 15,000 jobs, especially at its headquarters in France and in German plants, sources had earlier told Reuters. ....

The Reserve Bank of Australia has made its second call on the official cash rate for this year, following its decision to cut the rate to a record low in November.
In line with expectations, the RBA has held the cash rate at a record low of 0.1 of a percentage point. 
“At its meeting today, the board decided to maintain the current policy settings, including the targets of 10 basis points for the cash rate and the yield on the three-year Australian government bond, as well as the parameters of the term funding facility and the government bond purchase program,” governor Philip Lowe confirmed.  ....
