Partnership brings community solar garden, renewable energy jobs training to Pueblo


A partnership between Johnson Controls,  GRID Alternatives Colorado and Capital Dynamics will finance, operate and maintain a two-megawatt community solar garden for the the city of Pueblo s housing authority, according to a news release. The solar garden is a photovoltaic system composed of ground mounted solar panels which will generate enough energy to power 200 households annually, the release said. The energy capacity will be allocated to a mix of qualified, low-income residents as well as multifamily affordable housing properties. In addition, the project will provide hands-on solar training and employment opportunities for the local community. 
HACP is pleased to partner with the City of Pueblo, Johnson Controls and GRID Alternatives to install this community solar garden,  said Frank Pacheco, executive director, the Housing Authority of the city of Pueblo. A second solar garden is designed to help Pueblo's low-income residents


A new solar garden, much like one just completed in December, is planned to help deliver affordable renewable energy for low-income residents and those living in affordable housing properties in Pueblo. 
Johnson Controls and GRID Alternatives will again team up to deliver a small community solar garden for the Housing Authority for the City of Pueblo. It will generate enough energy to power 200 households. 
The companies Phase 1 solar garden came online in December and is located on the near Oakshire Lane in Pueblo. The community-based facility has customers who subscribe into ownership.
In the instance of the housing authority, 98% of the subscriptions are based at housing authority owned properties that are managing the utility accounts for individual apartments, said Devin Moeller, the renewables manager for Black Hills Energy. ....

This Colorado community solar deal includes public housing PV investment


The project is anchored by the HACP in support of its long-term affordable housing initiative with the City of Pueblo to improve sustainability and community health. HACP plans to direct annual energy cost savings from the 2 MW project to enable a community solar benefit plan, which will support job training, educational opportunities in addition to other program and financial assistance, according to Frank Pacheco, executive director.

In addition to the solar garden, Johnson Controls and GRID Alternatives will help HACP develop five additional public housing sites with onsite solar PV systems using incentives from Black Hills Energy.
