Hudson Reporter County Prep students win statewide competition Three contestants nailed it with Acts of Kindness 3 / 3 ❮ 3 / 3 ❮ ❯ Three County Prep High School students have been awarded a first place prize at the statewide SkillsUSA competition for bringing their school community together during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aleena Choudhry, of Bayonne, Fajrhafza Sohail, of Jersey City, and Varsha Santhosh Kumar, of Jersey City, presented their project, “Acts of Kindness,” in the competition’s community service division. Over three weeks, the girls asked their fellow students to do one small act of kindness, from writing a short letter of gratitude to their teachers during distance learning to donating canned goods to a local food bank. Over 1,000 acts of kindness were recorded. ....
: : Under a new reopening plan, proposed by Henrico School Board Chair Michelle Ogburn, the county s youngest students can return to classrooms on Feb. 22, after teachers have had their first COVID-19 shot, but before they get their second dose. Under the new timeline, students in pre-K through elementary school can return to the classroom before all teachers who want the COVID-19 vaccine receive their second dose, while most middle and high school students will return after staff are fully vaccinated. ....
School officials are pushing back against new state minimums for live instruction, claiming they would be counterproductive to the interests of local students. The new standards, adopted by the state Board of Education on Dec. 15 and slated to take effect Jan. 19, call for 35 hours of live instruction, averaged over a 10-day period, for school districts utilizing a hybrid approach, and 40 hours for those with full-remote learning. Foxboroâs hybrid learning program now provides 30 hours of live instruction at the elementary level and 32 hours for middle and high school students, according to Superintendent Amy Berdos. âI will share with you that there is incredible frustration⦠based on this information coming out in the last week and now having to come up with a plan in order to meet the new requirements,â Berdos told school committee members last week. ....
By Noozhawk Editors | 9:00 p.m. Regarding the Dec. 15 article, “Santa Barbara City Council Puts Temporary Stop to Changes at Flamingo Mobile Home Park,” the council’s decision to enact an emergency moratorium that prohibits the owners of the Flamingo Mobile Home Park to allow people of all ages to reside there raised two interesting points. First, Councilman Eric Friedman’s comment that the owner’s intent to allow all ages to live in the park is somehow discriminatory to seniors is, to use his own words, a non sequitur. If the seniors were to be disallowed to live there, then that would be discriminatory. But to expand eligibility to all ages is definitely not discriminatory. If anything is discriminatory, the current situation discriminates against nonseniors. ....
