TAOISEACH MICHEÁL MARTIN has warned against a “spiral back” into sectarian conflict in the North following a week of unrest in the region.
In a statement marking the 23rd anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, Martin called on political leaders to ensure a return to violence does not happen.
“We owe it to the agreement generation and indeed future generations not to spiral back to that dark place of sectarian murders and political discord,” he said. ....

Rioters hurled petrol bombs, bricks and torched a bus in Belfast on Wednesday night amid a sixth consecutive night of violence in some loyalist areas of Northern Ireland.
The Police Federation said seven officers were injured as violent clashes erupted at the Shankhill and Springfield Road interface in west Belfast.
The Northern Ireland executive is to hold an emergency meeting on Thursday morning to discuss the disorder, which started on Good Friday – a historic day for Northern Ireland’s fragile peace process. ....

Violence broke out in Northern Ireland on Monday evening for the fourth consecutive day amid rising tensions within the loyalist community.
