1. What is Alcohol Awareness Month?
Alcohol Awareness Month is a national public health awareness campaign sponsored by the National Council for Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD). It takes place every April. Alcohol Awareness Month was developed in order to increase awareness and understanding of the causes and treatment of one of our nationâs top public health problems: alcoholism. Established in 1987, alcohol awareness month allows communities to focus on spreading awareness and reducing the stigma associated with alcohol addiction. Observance of this awareness campaign also highlights the need for education on the dangers of unsafe alcohol consumptions. ....

News - Indiana Should Upgrade Age Verification Requirements for Tobacco and Vaping Purchases

Youth tobacco and vaping use is a widespread problem that has been on the rise for years. According to a recent Center for Disease Control (CDC) report, nine out of 10 adults who smoke today, tried their first cigarette by the age of 18. And the 2019 National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) on e-cigarette use reports that more than five million U.S. middle and high school students are current e-cigarette smokers or have used an e-cigarette within the past 30 days.
This is an alarming rate and concerns have arisen about the levels of youth use as they are at a higher risk for nicotine addiction. Also, evidence shows that youth exposure to nicotine can adversely affects brain development in minors. It is clear that there is a problem with underage use, and Indiana’s Senate Bill 142 offers one possible solution to this massive prob ....
