Marie Rimmer MP urges government to back Glass Futures

A PROPOSED global centre of excellence will put St Helens “at the heart of the global glass industry”, MPs in the House of Commons have heard today.
Part of the £54 million Glass Futures project, the centre of excellence will have the first openly accessible, multi-disciplinary experimental glass melting facility for research and development trials in the world.
It will be capable of producing 30 tonnes of glass per day and will aim to revolutionise and ultimately eliminate CO2 from glass production.
The nationally and globally significant project was a pivotal component of St Helens’ bid to the government’s £3.6 billion Towns Fund. ....

Insight to be given into pioneering Glass Futures facility


Glass Futures
A SERIES of virtual business events are to give an insight into the world’s first Global Centre of Excellence for glass coming to St Helens, which is set to decarbonise the glass industry.
The facility is set to connect the glass industry and academia to deliver exportable R&D and innovation, as well as training and up-skilling opportunities, ensuring glass making’s future is built on sustainable, recyclable, carbon-zero products.
Glass Futures, the not-for-profit research and technology organisation, has secured more than £30 million in funding from national, regional and local Government plus £20 million investment committed from industry to support the groundbreaking facility to be based at former United Glass site, which is adjacent to Saints Totally Wicked stadium.. ....
