Erin Mills Town Centre is a shopping mall in Mississauga, Canada owned by Cushman & Wakefield in Toronto. The revitalization project was designed by MMC International Architects Ltd. and features a 27.4m diameter glass and steel globe at its Centre Court. The structural glass for this globe structure is created with laminated double curved glass panels patch supported by a steel structure.
Some challenges arose during construction due to the frit on the glass panel and the thermal stress created between the inner and outer lites of the laminated assembly. Testing was used to establish a workable solution for replacement glass in order to correct the in-situ issue that was discovered. ....

Nearly six months of preliminary work regarding the static calculation of the load on the individual panes has been completed. This allows the construction to support itself with no screws in the substrate.
The project is unique, but the special features are not limited to the frameless glass structure itself. We have extended requirements for glass refiners, explored new possibilities for constructive glass construction, and developed new processes.
Each laminated safety glass pane consists of two 8-mm thick, semi-stressed individual panes made of low-iron white glass. They are connected by several foils of Saflex Structural. In addition, highprecision, stainless steel fittings are laminated between the two glass panes. ....

The BONARKA Shopping Centre, located in Kraków’s historic Podgórze District, was built on the site of former cement and chemical factories. This contemporary, light-filled mall radically changed the character of Kraków’s riverside section of town.
The complex was constructed in 2009 of high quality natural materials, such as stone and wood, in a nod to its industrial beginnings and 19th century Polish marketplace feel. Numerous glazings throughout the building were designed to illuminate the many shops and promenades with natural light. ....
