As the action unfolded during the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020™ final between Bayern Munich and Tigres UANL at Education City Stadium, a much quieter space was made available for fans with autism in the upper bowls of the stadium.
The sensory room provided a safe space for fans with neurobehavioural needs to retreat to during the game and enjoy the match in a space that is fitted out with equipment designed to engage the senses with controlled lighting, interactive projections and different toys.
Sensory rooms are part of a wider initiative by the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) to ensure that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ is accessible to all fans, regardless of their disability. Similar sensory rooms have been set up in the past at Al Janoub and Khalifa International stadiums, two venues which will host matches during Qatar 2022. Doha: The Ambulatory Care Center (ACC), part of the Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) group of hospitals located in Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City, recently expanded its intensive care unit (ICU) capacity to 10 rooms. The unit provides critical medical and surgical care support for other hospitals located nearby, which ensures easier access for critical care patients.
Dr Khalid Al Jalham, Director of the Ambulatory Care Center, explained that the ACC location and set up made it an ideal choice to enhance HMC’s critical care capacity. “Based on a critical needs assessment, a strategic decision was made to create a small ICU facility in our facility last July. This ensured there was capacity for the influx of critical care cases that had to be diverted from other facilities, several of which were designated as mainly COVID ....

COVID-19: 65-year-old Qatari recovers after 5 months


Dubai: A 65-year-old Qatari citizen who was infected with COVID-19 has been finally discharged from the Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital after 144 days of being admitted to the hospital for treatment, local media reported.
The patient had been suffering from severe complications due to his COVID-19 infection for which he has stayed in hospital as an inpatient since September 2020, Hamad Medical Corporation said in a report on its website.
The patient, who had been complaining of pulmonary arterial blood pressure, was admitted to Hazm Mebaireek General Hospital after being diagnosed with acute pneumonia due to COVID-19. His condition deteriorated until it reached lung fibrosis, acute respiratory failure and complete liver function disorders. ....
