Contacts told to self-isolate after COVID cluster identified at CFB Esquimalt


The fleet maintenance facility at the federal dockyard was sanitized and contact tracing was carried out after four cases of COVID-19 were detected between Feb. 3 and Feb. 8. All four individuals worked closely together at the facility.
On Feb. 10, a fifth civilian member tested positive, though it was determined that was due to exposure in the community and not connected to the other cases.
Wright also noted the fifth individual was last in the workplace Feb. 3 and had no close contacts at the fleet maintenance facility.
“The unit’s COVID response team has worked to understand the internal risk and to ensure that health and safety remain paramount in their response,” said Wright in an email. “They have identified affected personnel, who have been notified and tested, and affected areas have been disinfected. Our priority is the health and safety of our civilian and military members of the defence team.” ....
