KARACHI: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to impose ‘heavy’ penalties on sugar mills if they fail to connect their facilities through real-time video links with the tax authority, it said on Friday.
The FBR warned sugar mills and vendors who install video analytics system (VAS) to get the task done by January 31 otherwise they would face heavy penalties from February.
The FBR issued instructions to chief commissioners having jurisdictions to impose penalty on non-compliant sugar mills. The FBR also issued warning to the selected vendors of fine and penalties on non-compliance. ....

ISLAMABAD: Broadsheet case has taken another turn as it has emerged that the national exchequer had to suffer loss of millions of rupees due to alleged mistake of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) while paying damages on the order of Arbitration Court of London.
The NAB did not deduct 15 percent withholding tax while paying $28.7 million as damages in Broadsheet case. The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has sent a notice to pay Rs60.9 million. According to reliable sources, a notice was sent to NAB to pay Rs60.9 million ($40.3m) to the FBR. The notice was sent to DG NAB Headquarters on behalf of International Tax Department of FBR under Section 152 of FBR Ordinance. ....

ISLAMABAD: Broadsheet case has taken another turn as it has emerged that the national exchequer had to suffer loss of millions of rupees due to alleged mistake of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) while paying damages on the order of Arbitration Court of London.

Armed men torch P13M worth of heavy equipment in Leyte

AT LEAST P13 million worth of heavy equipment were torched by still unidentified armed men in Mahaplag, Leyte Sunday, January 24, 2021.
The equipment burned were a backhoe and a bulldozer owned by a construction firm.
Responding elements from Mahaplag Municipal Police Station and Philippine Army’s 14th Infantry Battalion said the incident happened around 2 a.m. Sunday in Sitio Agotayan, Barangay San Juan, Mahaplag.
According to the report, more or less 20 armed men arrived at the said place and burned the heavy equipment.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
