Sen. Richard Blumenthal and the president of Bristol manufacturer Arthur G. Russell Co. touted possible public/private partnerships in manufacturing training programs at an event supporting the federal Endless Frontier bill.
The bipartisan bill currently in the U.S. Senate would, among other features, quadruple funding for the federal Manufacturing Extension Partnership, a public-private partnership focused on helping small and medium-sized manufacturers increase their competitiveness on the global stage.
If passed, the MEP would receive $2.4 billion in funding from the 2022 fiscal year which begins July 1 to fiscal 2026. That s in addition to $52 billion for research and development in making U.S. manufacturing more competitive globally and $10 billion to create regional technology research hubs. ....

My friend, Mike DiMauro, the sports columnist for The Day, wrote a column recently celebrating the re-opening of New London’s iconic Dutch Tavern after a pandemic-related closure of more than a year. In describing The Dutch’s cozy interior, he pointed out, among other qualities at this fine establishment, that there is no Wi-Fi.
“But there are several newspapers,” he wrote, adding parenthetically “A newspaper is a printed publication issued daily and commonly contains news, sports, features, commentary and advertising, in case the word is unfamiliar.”
As is often the case, DiMauro was writing with tongue firmly implanted in cheek. Or was he? ....

CT healthtech companies CareCentrix, Signify Health in bitter legal dispute over trade secrets

When a top executive resigns without explanation, rumors begin to fly at most companies.
But in the weeks following Marcus Lanznar’s resignation from Hartford-based healthcare technology firm CareCentrix, the water-cooler rumors took on a particularly urgent tone. Lanznar, formerly associate vice president at CareCentrix for new strategies and products, had gone to work for what the company considered a direct competitor, Signify Health, which has its principal executive office in Norwalk.
Lanznar left CareCentrix on Nov. 6, 2020, declining to detail his future plans to his bosses. CareCentrix filed a lawsuit a month later, in the federal district court in Delaware, alleging the former VP violated numerous non-compete agreements and shared confidential trade secrets with a competitor. ....

One week after Connecticut’s expansive reopening, Gov. Ned Lamont urged the state’s residents to return to the world to travel, to eat out at restaurants, to work from the office.
At a Wednesday press briefing at the Connecticut Convention Center, alongside top business leaders and officials, Lamont told residents to venture back into their normal routines.
“I have spent the last year-plus saying ‘Stay safe, stay home,’” Lamont said. “And today, I’m telling you: get out of the damn house, come enjoy Hartford, get on a plane, visit a restaurant, go to an amazing hotel. This is a time where Connecticut is open, ready for business, we want you coming back.” ....
