Benchmarks end higher in choppy trade; Nifty settles above 13,750


Key equity indices ended with small gains on Friday (18 December 2020), supported by firmness in IT shares. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, rose 70.35 points or 0.15% to 46,960.69. The Nifty 50 index added 19.85 points or 0.14% at 13,760.55. Both the indices attained record closing high levels.
The S&P BSE Sensex hit a record high of 47,026.02 while the Nifty hit a record high of 13,772.85 in mid-afternoon trade. After a dull start, the benchmark indices declined and hit the day s low in the morning trade. The indices traded with modest losses till the afternoon trade. Bargain hunting in the mid-afternoon session pushed the barometers in the green and both the indices managed to extend their winning streak to the sixth consecutive session. The Sensex and the Nifty have climbed a little over 2% each in six sessions. ....

Barometers trade with losses; IT shares in demand


The benchmark indices continued to trade with modest losses in early afternoon trade. At 12:33 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was down 119.06 points or 0.25% to 46,771.28. The Nifty 50 index lost 34.25 points or 0.25% to 13,706.45.
Shares witnessed profit selling after a five-day rising streak during which the Sensex added 2.02% while the Nifty gained 1.95%.
In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index slipped 0.41% while the S&P BSE Small-Cap index shed 0.26%.
The market breadth was weak. On the BSE, 1023 shares rose and 1763 shares fell. A total of 150 shares were unchanged.
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 2,355.25 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs), were net sellers to the tune of Rs 2,494.36 crore in the Indian equity market on 17 December, provisional data showed. ....

ZEE, BPCL, Mazagon Dock to be watched


Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEE) said that the board of directors of the company has approved the acquisition of film production and distribution business as a going concern, on a slump sale basis from Zee Studios (formerly known as Essel Vision Productions), a wholly owned subsidiary of the company, for a cash consideration. Also the board of directors of the company considered and approved the transfer of the Digital Publishing Business Division of the company to Rapidcube Tecbnologies through a Business Transfer Agreement.
