CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. A Mechanicsburg man is facing charges after police say he tried making illegal fireworks.
Johnathan Park, 33, was arrested and is charged with causing and risking catastrophe, recklessly endangering another person, prohibited offensive weapons and weapons of mass destruction after the incident on Wednesday,
Upper Allen Township Police responded to the Geneva Greens Apartments on Wednesday evening for reported burn victim.
Through investigation, officers found that Park s bed caught fire while he was making homemade fireworks. Park also had explosives and explosive material that was not properly stored, and could have endangered neighbors. ....

“All Cumberland County government facilities will be open to the public, with or without an appointment, beginning Monday, May 10.
Some departments will continue to operate by appointment only. Residents should check the county website to ensure appointment availability for those offices. Government facilities are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted. The county had been operating by appointment only since Nov. 25, 2020.” ....

A 33-year-old woman with a history of heroin use is facing murder and homicide charges following a head-on collision that killed a Lewisberry man Tuesday in Cumberland County.
Krystin Nycole Marchese, of the 200 block of Market Street in Lemoyne, Cumberland County, is charged with murder; vehicular homicide while driving under the influence; vehicular aggravated assault while driving under the influence; and vehicular homicide. All are felonies.
Marchese also faces possession of drug paraphernalia and four counts of recklessly endangering another person, which are misdemeanors, as well as an ungraded misdemeanor DUI and two traffic violations. ....

Vaccines arriving in county jails, but a majority of inmates don't want one

HARRISBURG, Pa. Even as vaccines become available in prisons and county jails, a majority of inmates are choosing not to get one.
Jails are known as COVID-19 hotspots where the virus can spread through communal spaces and shared cells.
Yet at Lancaster and Dauphin County Prisons, which both held their first vaccine clinic this week, only about one quarter of inmates volunteered to be vaccinated.
At Lancaster County Prison, 163 of the nearly 700 inmates got vaccinated on Tuesday, according to Warden Cheryl Steberger.
At Dauphin County Prison, about 220 people signed up but only 150 people ended up getting vaccinated on Wednesday out of more than 900 inmates, according to Director of Corrections Brian Clark. ....
