Blackfeet Reservation announces Stay at Home order to be lifted, Phase 2 reopening plan


BROWNING, Mont.- Blackfeet Nation has announced a phased reopening plan after nearly four months of a strict Stay at Home order.
The Blackfeet COVID-19 Incident Response team shared the following notice on their Facebook page outlining all Phase 2 guidelines: 
“PUBLIC NOTICE - JANUARY 25, 2021
After conferring with the Medical Team from both Blackfeet Community Hospital and Southern Piegan Health Center, the Blackfeet Tribal Business Council & Blackfeet Incident Command Team is issuing the following public notice:
On January 29, 2021 at 11:59 p.m., the Stay At Home Order under Phase 1 will expire.
On January 30, 2021 at 12:01 a.m., the Blackfeet Reservation will move to a Restricted Opening - Phase 2 of the approved plan. Below is listed the outline for phase 2. ....

COVID-19 restrictions remain in place as numbers rise in Blackfeet Country


 “We’re having another potential outbreak,” Public Information Officer James McNeely said of the COVID-19 situation on the Blackfeet Reservation. “It’s hard to say where it came from; it’s been a month since Thanksgiving, and Christmas was just last week.”
McNeely said Incident Command thought it would be possible to move into Phase 2 of reopening up until the latest numbers came out. He said officials are waiting for three consecutive weeks of low numbers to make such a move, and so far that hasn’t happened.
“We’re not out of the woods yet so we need to continue to follow the rules,” he said. ....

As COVID-19 vaccines arrive in Montana, many tribal members are left wondering when their vulnerable communities will be immunized.
As Native American tribes are sovereign nations, they and their health care providers have the option to receive COVID-19 vaccines through state or federal channels. 
The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, Blackfeet Nation and Little Shell Tribe elected to receive their allocations through the state.
All five of the state s urban Indian health centers and all Indian Health Service (IHS) sites chose to receive their allocation from IHS, a federal agency, according to the governor s office.  ....
