Gov. Reynolds Signs FY22 Agriculture And Natural Resources Budget Bill At Black Hawk State Park Wednesday


Gov. Kim Reynolds joined state and local officials in Black Hawk State Park in Lake View yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon to sign the state’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 agriculture, natural resource and environmental protection budget. About $42 million of the over $140 million appropriations bill will be used on a slew of water quality improvement programs. Pollutant runoff has steadily decreased in Iowa in recent years, and Reynolds says the additional money will accelerate the clean-up process.
The bill also extends the Resource Enhancement and Protection (REAP) program for another two years. It was set to expire in 2021. The program is administered by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Department of Cultural Affairs and Department of Transportation (DOT). Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds will be making several stops in western Iowa today (Wednesday). Reynolds’ first stop will be in Blencoe along the Missouri River for a ribbon cutting for NEW Cooperative’s Port of Blencoe at 10:30 a.m. The approximately $11 million facility aims to provide increased access to export markets for area producers and adds another form of grain transportation other than by train or semi-tractor trailer. Reynolds then heads to Black Hawk State Park in Lake View at 1:50 p.m. to sign House File 860, a Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 agriculture and natural resources appropriations bill. Her next stop is in Storm Lake. She will be attending the 3:15 p.m. grand opening of a Buena Vista University (BVU) Lamberti Center for Rural Entrepreneurship initiative, known as the Foundry.
