PARMA, Ohio – President Warren G. Harding was inaugurated as the nation’s 29th president on March 4, 1921. Just a few days later, on March 10, Sue Peterchalk was born to Eastern European immigrant parents in Portage, Pennsylvania.
Peterchalk, now a Parma resident, is the city’s newest centenarian. She received a proclamation recently from Parma City Council President Sean Brennan. Ward 9 Councilman Roy Jech also signed the proclamation. ....

WESTLAKE, Ohio The stately Clague House at 1371 Clague Road in Westlake, once the home of the Clague family, is marking another milestone this year: its 145th birthday.
In non-pandemic times, the Westlake Historical Society offers tours of the house and it can be reserved for special occasions, including weddings. The historical society also hosts special events there, including fundraisers.
Lysa Stanton, historical society president, and her husband, Dave Pfister, a board member, coordinate special photo opportunities at the house for holidays. Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and Uncle Sam have visited and posed with pets and people for a small fee. ....

PARMA, Ohio – With COVID-19 vaccine becoming more available and the number of vaccinated people increasing, Parma officials are looking optimistically at resuming community events this year.
A Memorial Day service is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. May 31 at Veterans Memorial Park in Parma. And the Fourth of July parade will be back, but it will take place on July 3.
A virtual landlord and tenant training session is planned for 6-8 p.m. June 8 on the Zoom platform. Watch for the Zoo link to be posted that day on the city’s website. ....

LAKEWOOD, Ohio West Shore Career-Technical District Outstanding Student Award recipients are being honored for the 23rd time by the Rotary Club of Lakewood and Rocky River. The recognition will take place during an April 15 program on the Zoom platform.

After serving as president of the Rocky River Community Garden for the past nine years, Teresa Kowalski passed the shovel to fellow gardener David Gilronan.
