A Philippines Air Force troop plane crashed and broke up in flames on a southern island on Sunday, killing at least 45 people after some jumped free, officials said, in the country’s worst military air disaster in nearly 30 years.

Death toll in Philippine military plane crash increases to 29
The death toll in the Philippines’ military plane crash on July 4 has risen to 29, said a local military commander.
Major General William Gonzales said 17 personnel remained unaccounted for, while about 50 were injured and are being treated in hospitals.
Rescue activities are underway, with the number of dead victims predicted to continue rising.
The air force C-130 aircraft, which was transporting troops from southern Cagayan de Oro city in Mindanao to Sulu’s main town of Jolo, crashed in a southern province after missing the runway on July 4. It was trying to land in Patikul city in Sulu province. ....

At least 45 people have died in a military plane crash in the southern Philippines after the aircraft missed the runway, military officials said.
The plane that had 96 people on board crashed into a coconut grove while landing at Patikul in the Sulu province, on Jolo Island, at around midday on Sunday. Some were able to jump off the aircraft before it burst into flames.
At least 49 people have been rescued from the burning wreckage of the Philippine Air Force s Lockheed C-130 transport aircraft, and are now being treated in hospital, defence minister Delfin Lorenzana said. ....
