A grade 10 pupil  at Fusion Secondary School in Lotus Gardens, west of Pretoria, is fighting for her life after she was hit by a stray bullet on Tuesday morning.
According to the Educators’ Union of South Africa (Eusa) there was a shootout outside the school at about 11am on Tuesday.

Two Gauteng school pupils die in separate incidents

The Gauteng education department is mourning the deaths of two pupils who died in separate incidents on Wednesday. 
In the first incident, an 18-year-old grade 12 pupil at Sekanontoane Secondary School in Soweto had to be rushed to the clinic after she struggled to breathe. 
Provincial spokesperson Steve Mabona said the incident occurred at  about 7.45am.
The learner allegedly arrived at school and attended her class that morning, but she suddenly ran out of the class rushing to the water tap while struggling to breathe. The school principal contacted the learner’s parents and an ambulance to provide assistance. However, the principal resorted to urgently transport the learner to a nearby clinic in Chiawelo, Mabona said.  ....

MDE: All K-12 statewide assessments will be administered for 2020-21


TUPELO • The Mississippi Department of Education confirmed Monday that all required federal and statewide assessments will be administered to public school students for the 2020-21 school year, but passing them won’t be required to advance or graduate.
Current third graders won’t be required to meet a passing score on the reading assessment to be promoted to fourth grade for the 2021-22 school year, but students must meet all other district requirements for promotion.
Likewise, high school students who take required end-of-course high school assessments, including Algebra I, English II, Biology and U.S. History, won’t be required to meet a passing score to graduate, but they must meet all other state and district graduation requirements. ....

'Desk of their Own' program donates 100+ hand-crafted wood desks to remote learners | Regional


GREAT FALLS, Mont. - Good Samaritans are coming together help students better adjust to remote learning. Their mission: to give everyone a ‘desk of their own.’
Through time spent under quarantine this year we ve learned how important a designated workspace can be, especially for students learning from home this year. People in Great Falls are hand- making and delivering over 100 wooded desks to provide some structure.
Gaines McFadden, a master woodworker, Dan Oakland, Gordon Johnson, and many others use tools donated from Ace Hardware and Johnson/Madison to build 130 wood desks for students from Kindergarten through sixth grade. Donations fully funded this project, GFPS receiving donations from the Rotary Club of Great Falls and many local businesses. Each desk takes over two hours to make, and volunteers have spent close to 325 hours providing school-room to help remote learners.
