Comedian to prove he knows his arts from his elbow

A COMEDIAN has joined the team at an award-winning arts project.
Si Beckwith has been a regular on the region’s comedy scene since 2013 and also works in arts marketing and promotion.
Now he’s joined The Cultural Spring, an Arts Council England funded programme aimed at increasing the number of people engaging in the arts in Sunderland and on South Tyneside, as audience development and engagement officer.
Hebburn-born Si had various jobs before he performed at an open-mic night and was smitten.
As well as his stand-up comedy work, Si also hosts comedy nights and other events at venues across the North-East. ....

Art packs keep North-Est communities alive

MORE than 700 activity packs have been distributed across six communities free of charge thanks to an award-winning arts project and support from the council.
The Sunderland-based Cultural Spring commissioned six artists to produce 720 activity packs and then worked with a range of community organisations in six council wards to distribute the packs.
Emma Horsman, project director of The Cultural Spring, said: “We’ve been working with artists and creative organisations to create and distribute art activity packs since the first lockdown, but this is the most we’ve delivered in one go. ....
