Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) applauds reversal of DMV's proposed elimination of language access

Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) released the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom halting the California Department of Motor Vehicles’ proposal to eliminate 25 language options from its written driving test, including Korean:
Yesterday, I released a statement criticizing the DMV’s attempt to eliminate 25 language services, including Korean, the fifth most commonly spoken non-English language in California. Today, the Governor stopped this from happening,” Min said. “DMV’s proposal would have deprived Korean Americans and other New Americans of their ability to legally drive. I applaud the Governor’s swift action to correct this significant issue that would have harmed so many Asian Americans and communities of color, at a time when these same communities feel unwelcome and under attack during a wave of anti-Asian violence. ....

Senator Dave Min (D-Irvine) announced hisSenate Bill (SB) 391 advanced out of its house of origin this week. The bill allows common interest developments (such as HOAs) to meet remotely by videoconference or teleconference during states of emergency and passed the State Senate.
“We are one step closer to getting this common-sense legislation allowing HOA members to meet remotely signed into law,” Min said. “Our community association and HOA board members are committed to the improvement of our neighborhoods, and they do this on an entirely voluntary basis. This legislation provides a common-sense solution allowing remote meetings when HOAs are confronted with emergency situations that make in-person business impracticable or dangerous, as we have seen this past year with the pandemic and a series of wildfires.” ....

Carlsbad City Council Member Priya Bhat-Patel Attends Council Meeting While Getting Ready to Give Birth – NBC4 Washington

The council member was wearing a hospital gown and face mask. Her background – like her fellow council members – was a blue, digital backdrop emblazoned with the city of Carlsbad’s seal.
The council meeting ran for an hour and 19 minutes, through six items, including public comment. Bhat-Patel attended the entire meeting, showing up on video from time to time, calm – still in the hospital.
Kristina Ray, the communication and engagement director for the City of Carlsbad, said having a council member dial in from the hospital, getting ready to give birth, was a first for the city. ....
