Governor Gavin Newsom submitted his 2021-22 State Budget proposal to the Legislature – a $227.2 billion fiscal blueprint that provides funding for immediate COVID-19 response and relief efforts where Californians need it most while making investments for an equitable, inclusive and broad-based economic recovery.
With the end of the COVID-19 pandemic in sight, the Governor’s Budget prioritizes key actions that will urgently help the California families and businesses impacted most. It proposes $372 million to speed up administration of vaccines across all of California’s 58 counties, bolstering the state’s all-hands-on-deck approach to swift and safe vaccine distribution. California’s public colleges and universities would receive additional investment under Gov. Gavin Newsom’s 2021-22 budget proposal in an attempt to keep tuition at current levels, provide students with emergency financial aid and support for basic needs like housing and food, accelerate transition between two- and four-year institutions, and improve pathways to jobs.
Newsom proposed significant new investments in the state’s 116 community college system, totaling about $600 million for a range of ongoing and one-time programs and initiatives. In particular, he drew attention to the increased number of students dropping out of community colleges because of the pandemic, and included proposals to “re-engage” as many of those students as possible. ....

Governor Gavin Newsom Unveils Proposed $227 Billion California Budget
Governor Gavin Newsom unveiled the proposed $227 billion California budget Friday for the upcoming 2021-2022 fiscal year as the Golden State continues to battle COVID-19.
Newsom outlined during a press conference in Sacramento Friday the budget proposals including a $600 stimulus for lower-income Californians, grants for small businesses impacted by COVID-19 and other measures to respond to the ongoing pandemic.
The budget proposes $372 million to speed up the administration of vaccines across all of California’s 58 counties, “bolstering the state’s all-hands-on-deck approach to swift and safe vaccine distribution,” according to the governor’s office. ....
